Shit Happens. Shift Happens, Too. New Resilience Program for the New Year

You could say 2020 was one shit storm after another. Shutdowns from the pandemic that have not yet truly opened up again. Hostilities along racial, class and political lines that still fester. And folks everywhere, doing their best, day after day, to deal with the angst and uncertainty of maybe losing their health, maybe losing their livelihood, maybe losing connections with loved ones.
And you could say that 2021 is ushering in the hope of new possibilities, new solutions. In two days in the U.S., we’ll have a new administration in the White House, one that respects science and understands that Black Lives Matter, even as the outgoing president has just been impeached for insurrection. More than 10 million people have been vaccinated in the U.S. against the coronavirus, even as the death toll in the U.S. hit a record 4,200 deaths in a single day last week.
And folks everywhere are showing up for the deep wisdom of Annie Dillard:
Nothing on earth is more gladdening than knowing we must roll up our sleeves and move back the boundaries of the humanly possible once more.
I’ve taught here many times that the Chinese pictograph character for crisis is two characters: danger and opportunity. Life right now is one big AFGO – another frickin- growth opportunity.
Showing up, insisting on making the choices that make us resilient, is needed now, more than ever. I’m launching a new online course on February 4, 2021 – Transforming Any Adversity into Learning and Growth – to help all of us cultivate the resilience mindset that allows us to not only bounce back but bounce forward when we’ve been bounced around quite a bit.
As I’ve also taught here many times before:
Mishaps are like knives, that either cut us or serve us, as we grasp them by the blade or by the handle. – James Russell Lowell
The new course, the second in the Resilience 2.0 series, will show you how to use life’s ordinary disappointments, and even extraordinary disasters, as cues to reclaim your core human strengths of courage and connection and deepen the meaning and purpose at the center of your life.
The Transforming Adversity course consists of 6 live 90-minute webinars (how else can we teach and learn these days?) with comprehensive instructions and effective guided practices to move from confusion and overwhelm to clarity and courage, from doldrums to determination, from heartache to hope.
Every webinar includes 30 minutes of conversational Q&A where you’ll get to ask me your questions directly and find en-courage-ment in a community of like-minded learners.
These posts will continue. My online teaching for other venues will continue. Please do check out this upcoming, more personal and interactive program.
