To Bless the Space Between Us

To Bless the Space Between Us

Healing and Awakening into Aliveness and Wholeness has been the banner of this e-newsletter from the very beginning. And Conscious, Compassionate Connection the path to that healing and awakening from the beginning. (See January 19, 2008 e-newsletter: Mindfulness and Empathy Create Conscious, Compassionate Connection and February 19, 2008 Brain Research Illuminates Conscious, Compassionate Connection and April 19, 2008 Compassionate Connection Deepens Resilience and May 19, 2008 Equanimity: the Invisible Fulcrum of Conscious, Compassionate Connection.

Oh my, I used to write l-o-n-g newsletters in those days, full of reflections, poetry and quotes to inspire, stories to learn from, exercises, and references. I will continue to post weekly e-newsletters as I ease into retirement this weekend, the focus on conscious, compassionate connection and blessing the space between us will continue, with a new brevity as the soul of wisdom (thank you, Shakespeare).

I said this morning prayer every morning since the very beginning, too. Before I had breakfast, before I turned on the computer. It guided the writing of Bouncing Back, Resilience, and every moment with clients, in teaching, in writing. My hopes for being competent, creative, contributory as well as consciously, compassionately connected:

May this period of wise effort be focused and disciplined, creative and productive, truthful and useful, courageous and persevering. (Looking around at my garden: May I not miss this day.) May I enjoy the process, resting in trust, love, and joy. May I meet my deadline. (and added during the pandemic…) May I bring full compassion when I fail.

May I enjoy the process, resting in trust, love, and joy is what I plan to continue as my commitments and intentions shift slightly in retirement. I now recite this bodhisattva prayer from Shantideva, an 8th century Buddhist monk (HH the Dalai Lama recites this prayer daily, too, trustworthy company):

May I become at all times, both now and forever

A protector of those without protection

A guide for those who have lost their way

A ship for those with oceans to cross

A bridge for those with rivers to cross

A sanctuary for those in danger

A lamp for those without light

A place of refuge for those who lack shelter

And a servant to all in need

May it be so. Blessings and conscious, compassionate connection to us all.
